Vacation

My month-long vacation continues apace. Thanks to a profit-sharing check, I'm spending cash like a drunken sailor. Mostly on books. Bill and I took a browse through a local antique shop. I found myself two decent pipes, one of which was a curiosity. It has a stainless steel cap at the bottom where put the tobacco in and a screen at the top of the bowl where you're supposed to light it. A unique addition to the collection.

My "homemade" workout regimen seems to be paying off dividends. If the weight isn't flying off, at least the serotonin is being pushed around my system, generally making me feel a bit more positive. That's the main point. I've been writing a lot of letters during this vacation. Letter-writing is similar to most other types of "creative" writing, I'm sure. Inspiration hits...and then you follow it through. Take for example: This morning, in the wee hours when I was waking up, I was listening to BBC WORLD SERVICE on National Public Radio. Business Daily. They had a feature on Aberdeen, Scotland and how Brexit may possibly affect their fishing and oil industry. One of the radios was speaking out of Peterhead, a fishing city about 30 miles up the Grampian coast. One gent that was speaking had the distinctive Doric lilt. Which made me think of The Hendersons. Which made me want to write them a letter. Last piece of mail they got out of me was Christmas time. They're not super-close friends but I do like to touch base from time to time...As they're older, I was thinking of hand printing it out or typing out a letter. May do the latter. I can always use the typing practice. AND they can actually read the thing.

A lot of craziness going on in the world. 737's dropping out of the sky, a gun-massacre in New Zealand, the general drama going on here stateside...was the world always this nuts? Or am I just noticing it more? Being stuck in the 24-hour news/internet cycle doesn't help.  And yeah, I spend way more time on the interet than I should...

All for now...GaP
